Climate

  • Temperature

Guri has an annual average temperature of 12.5°C for 10 years from 1997 to 2007. South Korea’s average temperature of the same period is 13.5°C and Gyeonggi-do’s average temperature is 11.7°C. Guri’s average temperature is slightly lower than the entire country and higher than Gyeonggi-do.

Guri is the coldest in January, reaching an average temperature of -4.3°C and hottest in August at an average temperature of 30.5°C. Thus, the annual range of temperature is 35°C, which increased by around 5°C from 1984 to 1992.

  • Precipitation

Guri’s average precipitation is higher than Gyeonggi-do since it is situated in the northeastern part of Gyeonggi-do and is affected by the topographic rain of the mid-upper region of Hangang River. Its average precipitation over the past 10 years is 1,426mm, which is higher than the national average (1,180mm) and Gyeonggi-do (1,250mm).

For the past 10 years, precipitation from July through September, including the rainy season, accounts for around 60% of the total annual precipitation, which means a big difference in monthly precipitations. Since 2007, unlike the past 10 years, the rainy season begins in September and has been getting longer. It is expected that the frequency of the rainy season in autumn will increase due to global warming.

  • Weather

In Guri, people can enjoy a clear day for around 17 days per month on average. It is just the average and you can’t see a clear day as often as this during the rainy season in summer and the snowy season in winter.
